The Store is closing!

At the end of April, the Music Syndicate "Where the Music Matters" will cease retail operations after nearly 15 years. The lease on the space it's occupied all that time is expiring, and the new building owner is not interested in renewing a rental agreement. Mike's multiple sclerosis has also flared up, so he's not interested in relocating. Mike will continue to write his music columns, which will continue to be posted. Thanks for all the years, of support!

From Michael Mahlum, your humble Music Syndicate Honcho.

This little shop is the embodiment of a man letting his hobby take over his life.

In an article a couple of years ago in the BSC Mystician, Chris Rausch had this to say: "The Syndicate is more than just a sum of its parts (CDs both new and used, cassettes, records). It's the embodiment of that feeling you get when you hear that certain song on the radio that defines some moment in your life. It's a kind of anti-corporate sentiment that worked so well in the 60s but seems to get passed over fairly easily these days. Which is almost fitting, because the store, which is located on one of Bismarck's busiest streets, is often passed by, many people not even aware it exists."

Chris hit the nail on the head in that article. But he had an inside track. He's been an employee on and off for the past several years. At our shop, we don't go through a lot of employees, either. "The few...the proud..the workers, along with our rabidly loyal clientele, are referred to as the "Music Syndicate family."

Once we adopt you, you can never escape! That's what leads to long-distance mail orders. That's how the "hall of fame" developed with photos showing family members sporting our t-shirts from the Grand Canyon to Tokyo, from Zambia to a space shuttle launch.

Stop in and see us! We're located at:
220 South Third Street
Bismarck, North Dakota 58504

Our telephone number is (701) 222-3027, and e-mail address is music-syndicate@bis.midco.net
