| The quality is poor and the cost of production is higher than a compact disc! Can someone explain to me why we still pay more for CD's than cassettes? |

| Why is a CD 17 dollars? |

| Cd's are now over $17 average, production costs are lower than they have ever been and the artists claim that they are only getting pennies on the Cd, but CD's keep going up in price. Doesn't make sense to me. Does anyone remember the court case some time ago that was supposed to lower the cost? Whatever happened and did anything actually change? |

| The cost of a CD in comparison to the cost of production and the amount an artist receives for each CD is not that much different than the cost of a loaf of bread in comparison to what a producer of wheat makes. Supply and demand will always drive the price and as long as we buy billions of CD's at $17, they will cost at least that. I guess the answer is that farmers should get into the CD wholesale business during the winter months! |

Easy to figure out, too many "other" people have their fingers in the pie, they are like another infamous entity that likes to get something for nothing (clue: where politicians work). That is why the musicians and the comsumers get screwed. Too many people in the middle, it's the same way for the farmer. All of these *unneccessary* added costs are what is driving up the cost of music and consumers respond to this problem by buying less cd's. Consumers have little choice given the quality of radio stations (in this town) to decide what they want to buy so they go on the internet to download before they buy so they don't get stuck with a dud, something that the recording industry knows happens, but they won't admit to it.
When music sales start slipping, these bureaucrats will be quickly downsized out and prices will start coming down. |

With the advent of computer technology that really allows the artist to be self sufficient, I have gone to doing all the manufacturing myself. Music is quickly falling more into the realm of hobbyists and those that play music because they love it. I have another job, yet through my computer I have access to a 24 track recording studio as well as CD replication. My actual costs are very low. When I sell CDs I sell them for 5.00, which covers my costs of the 20 cent CD, the 5 cent label, the 20 cent jewel case (bought in bulk), ink, photo paper, etc. The actual costs I have are low, most of the rest is time designing cd covers and photography. One thing we can do is to pay less attention to "big name" artists and reward the independent artist. What are you really buying for 17 dollars when you buy a Britney Spears CD? You are helping pay for the videos, studio time, etc that is very expensive and not necessary to make great music.
Guess this is just a little rant. |

| I use to hate 8-tracks. But I started collecting them and now have thousands of them, quads, 4-tracks and even 2-tracks. I didn't know how to get them apart and they broke all the time, they got jammed upinthe machine, but I started learning how to fix them, finding them dirt cheap, why would anyone pay big bucks for an 8-track? It's such a fun hobby and cheap and as a tracker I don't have to worry about the war over peer to peer or being screwed over the price of CD. If you have a good, well recorded8-track tape, for example in dolby, a good pressure pad a good player you have a good sound. A good sound to party to and really enjoy and have a good time with it! |
