Who are your favorite obscure musicians or bands? There are a lot of great musicians out there that should be house hold names. Have you ever heard of Swamp Dogg? He is my favorite obscure artist. His obscurity, however, has nothing to do with the music, which rocks in a way reminiscent of Solomon Burke or Wilson Picket. It may have to do with Dogg's worldview, part libertarian politics, part Zappa-style critiques of commerciality and capitalism, and part horny male, the latter defining for better and worse his view of woman. I find it very exciting to know that there are thousands of great artists that I've never even heard of! So, who are your favorites? Why do you like them? Why do you think even music lovers such as we say "huh?" when you mention their names? Thanks for sharing.
P.S. I am disapointed about the lack of response to my "Mind Out Of Time" topic. Reverb is the only one who responded and he doesn't even like Dylan.

I really like Ian Moore from Austin, Texas! He has some great guitar chops in the style of SRV and plays with a lot of feeling. Another favorite is Audley Freed of Cry of Love, now in the Black Crowes. They were a very good band and he is an excellent guitar player and songwriter.
Another is a blast from the past and recently reunited. Warriorsoul was a great band that was equal parts punk and hard rock but their music proved to be too political to make it big. Their first 2 albums, Last Decade Dead Century and Drugs God and the New Republic are excellent!
Another band I thought was very good but just couldn't make it was Mind Bomb. Excellent heavy groove laden songs with some very prime riffage.
A band I was really into in 1991 and then just disappeared was Sweet Lizard Illtet. They were way ahead of their time with some very heavy instruments and a trace of rap in their vocals. Never made it anywhere.
Last but not least is the Disposable Heroes of Hiphopracy! They were a politically charged rap group backed by real musicians. The singer had a very good Chuck D. style voice and they wrote some excellent songs. I believe they broke up and the leader went on to form Spearhead.
I'll probably have many more as I think of them! |

| I like shannon curfman's debut CD. Great blues. Love her voice and electric playing. She does an excellent cover of "The Weight." I think there's a poster of hers hanging on one of the walls of the music syndicate. |
