Fired from the Tribune...for the 3rd time 5/3/2002 12:09:06 PM
bluesboy

Just got done reading the article... Well, there goes more original content for the paper. Oh, other than the normal meth lab busts and the nubs. I guess original opinion from the local area, just doesn't cut it anymore, pretty soon the only original content for the paper is going to be the classifieds.

"pretty soon the only original content for the paper is going to be the classifieds"

And that is only because they get money for classifieds -- the bums. I believe the Trib would be happy as little monkeys if the paper consisted of nothing but newswire clippings and paid advertisements. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they started requiring payment to print letters to the editor.

Mike's work will be sorely missed.

Local content like Mike's column is the only reason to read a *local* paper. Soon, alas, all media, from newspapers to TV and radio, will be controlled by one huge conglomerate and it will all be mind-numbingly bland and boring wherever you go.
Thank goodness for the Internet, where individuality still thrives and intelligent, articulate people can have their voices heard.

Maybe Mike should change his name to Mike Barry or Dave Mahlum and say he is from Nashville. Betcha he would be back in a heartbeat.

Hey Victorrrrrr
Does Bismarck/Mandan have an alternative newspaper? If so, I haven't heard of it. I think it would be a great idea! This paper good be a cultural outlit for the area's poets and musicians. It would be a great way of showcasing local talent and promoting events.

Instead of complaining that the Tribune sucks, which it does, we could actually provide an alternative to that close minded paper. Think about it. It could be fun. And, Mike could once again share his wealth of knowlege with the masses.
It used to... 2/24/2003 1:52:21 PM

I published the alternative paper "The Open Forum" for 14 months ending about seven years ago. It contained pretty much everything you describe. Unfortunately, in this community it was a tougher sell than my meager ad sales ability and it rarely even covered its printing costs.

Thus, I feel my Bismarck Tribune sour grapes are somewhat justified.
